EVERY INGREDIENT COUNTS

Millet Flour (Organic)

Should dogs eat grains? No, not really. Is millet different? Yes! Millet is a highly nutritious, gluten-free and alkalisingancient grass, bursting with antioxidants, protein and highly digestible fibre to help maintain healthy metabolism, heart and immune function, and cellular repair. Millet is also tasty and soothing on the stomach, and has been shown to play a role in preventing and reducing certain types of cancers.

We’ve chosen millet for its:

Impressive alkalising and detoxifyingproperties to help remove toxins and reduce inflammation.
High protein content(unusually high for a plant!) to re-build and repair damaged tissue and muscles.
B-complex vitaminsincluding niacin, thiamin, and riboflavin, the essential amino acidsmethionine, lecithin, and some vitamin Eto soothe, repair and strengthen cells.
High mineral content, includingiron, magnesium, phosphorous, potassium, calcium, iron, zinc, and magnesium, and essential fatty acidsfor overall health, immunity and metabolism.

You may find some warnings that dogs with thyroid conditions should not eat millet, but be aware that these warnings can be traced back to a study that gave dogs intense amounts of millet in a short period that we would not recommend of any one ingredient. If your dog has a thyroid condition perhaps avoid lots of millet on its own and consult your vet.

Beetroot (Organic)

Beets are an ancient, prehistoric food that grow naturally along coastlines in North Africa, Asia, and Europe, rich in potassium, vitamin C, and fibre. The powerful antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and vascular-protective effects of beets are the reason for its ever increasing popularity as a nutritional approach to help manage cardiovascular disease and cancer. But do dogs eat vegetables? Well actually yes they did and do. In the wild, dogs would obtain nutrients from digested vegetables in the stomach contents of their prey. Beetroot is a great vegetable choice, helping to provide dogs with nutrients and fibre, while packing in a high dose of beneficial vitamins and minerals.

We’ve chosen beetroot for its:

Rich source of phytochemical compounds that include ascorbic acid, carotenoids, phenolic acids and flavonoids to boost immunity and cell function.
Levels of choline to help reduce inflammation and strengthen cellular repair.
Content of highly bioactive pigments known asbetalains, shown to have high antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and cancer inhibitory capabilities.
Rich source of vitamins and minerals, including vitamin C,  potassium, magnesium and manganese to help regulate nerve function, strengthen the immune system, and keep bones strong and healthy.

In 2010 kangaroo was declared by New Scientist magazine to be the best red meat on the planet due to its high  protein and low fat content. Kangaroo is also a sustainable meat source compared to beef, since it does not produce excessive methane, needs only minimal food and water, and roams wild in the Australian bush.

We’ve chosen kangaroo for its:

Super high proteincontent to help repair and rebuild cells and tissue, and boost immunity and vitality.
High levels ofconjugated linoleic acid (CLAs) – a fatty acid with powerful antioxidant properties to help reduce inflammation, boost immunity, and support in fighting cancer.

Hemp Seed (Organic – Flour and Husks)

Hemp has a long history as a staple, delicious food source, cultivated for centuries due to its healing and nutritional qualities. It was only in the mid-twentieth century that legislation limited or banned its use as a knee-jerk reaction to hemp’s relationship with its cousin marijuana. Hemp is actually one ofthe most nutritious foods on the planet and has no THC(the psychoactive compound in marijuana that makes you high), and has demonstrated roles in promoting healthy skin and coat, aiding immunity and regulating hormones.

We’ve chosen hemp seed flour and husks for their:

Most perfect balance of omega 6 to 3 essential fatty acidcontent, including linoleic acid (LA) and alpha-linolenic acid (ALA). LA and ALA are both essential for dogs to maintain healthy eyes, skin, coat and brain cells, while also helping to reduce inflammation and helping fight cancer.
Gamma linolenic acid (GLA) content- another fatty acid which dogs under stress need to obtain from their diet, and to support them to keep their brain, skin and coat healthy and help reduce inflammation.
Extremely high protein content- amongst the highest of all plants! – to help regenerate, repair and rebuild cells and muscles.
Powerpacked minerals including phosphorus, potassium, magnesium, manganese and calciumfor healthy bodies, bones, and brains, and high levels of vitamin E compounds (tocotrienols and tocopherols)for their strong antioxidant properties to help boost immunity and fight disease.

Coconut Oil (Organic Cold Pressed)

Coconut oil is 90% super healthy saturated fat, the majority of which are Medium Chain Triglycerides (MCTs) and responsible for most of coconut oil’s health benefits. By gently elevating the metabolism, coconut oil provides a higher level of energy and vitality, helps protect from illness, and speeds healing. Thousands of studies have shown coconut oil to be truely one of the healthiest foods on the planet, including a role in soothing inflamed and allergy-prone skin and coat, improving digestion, reducing inflammation and arthritis, and fighting cancer.

We’ve chosen coconut oil for its:

Rich source of MCTs, particularly its high levels of lauric acid, capric acid, and caprylicacids, known for their antibacterial, antiviral, and anti-fungal properties to help fight infection and boost immunity.
Super efficiently metabolised MCTs to providean immediate source of fuel and energy, enhancing athletic performance and aiding weight loss. They also balance the thyroid, helping overweight dogs lose weight and helping sedentary dogs feel energetic.
High levels of antioxidantsto help reduce inflammation and arthritis.
Healing and protective qualities, especially for theliver which sick dogs may need help with, and it’s cancer-fighting ketones.

Watercress is THE most nutritious member of the cruciferous (also known as brassica) family of vegetable, ahead of kale, broccoli, arugula and brussel sprouts. With a perfect nutrient density score of 100, watercress is streaks ahead of all leafy greens including kale, broccoli and spinach. Weight for weight, watercress also contains more vitamin C than an orange, more calcium than milk, more iron than spinach and more folate than bananas.

We’ve chosen watercress for its:

Antioxidant packednutrient profile – including the carcinogen inhibiting compound gluconasturiin and cancer preventing  compounds phenylethyl isothiocyanate (PEITC) and 3,3′-diindolylmethane (DIM) – to help fight disease (including cancer) and strengthen immunity.

Moringa Leaf (Organic)

Moringa, or Moringa Olefeira is commonly known as the ‘Miracle Tree’ for its extraordinary nutrient profile and many uses. All parts of the plant (leaves, roots, seeds) are used for medicinal purposes and have been for thousands of years. In fact, the World Health Organisation values moringa so highly that it deploys moringa agricultural programs in famine stricken areas the world over to help fight malnutrition. Strong scientific evidence of its antibacterial effects has been building since the 1950’s and some studies have shown that moringa can inhibit the growth of cancer cells. Extracts of leaves have also been proven effective as anticancer agents.

We’ve chosen moringa for its:

Super-rich antioxidant profile to help neutralise free radicals and support in the fight against disease, including cancer.
High proteincontent, including the amino acid tryptophan, to rejuvenate and repair cells, muscles, and tissue, and help regulate mood, including anxiety, aggression, and stress.

Barleygrass (Organic)

Barley grass is one of the earliest grown sweet grass in the world having been around since before 5000 BC. It is a nutrient rich super food, fully loaded with vitaminssuch as vitamin A, vitamin B1(thiamine), vitamin B2(riboflavin), vitamin B3(niacin), vitamin B6, folate, vitamin C(ascorbic acid), vitamin E(alpha- tocopherol) and vitamin K(phylloquinone). It has an abundance of electrolytes such as magnesium, phosphorous and potassiumas well as other essential mineralssuch as zinc, ironand calcium. Barley grass is also a rich provider of powerful antioxidants, essential amino acids and beneficial enzymes.

It is thought that the real power of Barley grass is the combination of all of these nutrients and enzymes in one food. It’s often referred to as a ‘wonder tonic’ due to its abundance of superoxide dismustase which protects cellular DNA from destruction, improves the body’s ability to deal with stress and keeps cholesterol in control. It also encourages agility along with physical and mental fitness.

Barley grass is a blood builder and helps purification. Vitamin E contributes to hormonal balance and vitamin K helps maintain normal bone metabolism in the body. The powerful enzymes and other useful components such as glutaminic acid act as neurotransmitters and work against senility, poor concentrationand learning disorders, making it great to enhance brain function. Including barley grass in a diet has overall strengthening and invigorating effects on the entire body (for humans and dogs!).

Barley grass provides a natural way to stimulate cell regeneration without any side effects. Vital components such as chlorophyll, vitamin B, iron and phcocyanin, a blue pigment in barley grass, helps vitalise the bone marrowand supports the creation of white and red blood cells. Very useful during cancer treatment.

Barley grass powder is a great addition to your dog’s meals, I often add it to Ruby’s for a superfood boost.

Chia Seeds (Organic)

Chia seeds are amongst the healthiest foods on the planet. They are jam packed with goodness and were prized by the Aztecs and Mayans for their ability to help sustain energy.

They are rich in antioxidants and full of fiber, magnesium, zinc, iron and calcium, making them great for bone health and brain and body function.

Although high in Omega 3 fatty acids, dogs can’t convert plant based omegas easily to be useful so this isn’t a huge health benefit in this case.

By weight, chia seeds are about 14% protein, which is very high compared to most plants, and also contain a good balance of essential amino acids.

I frequently sprinkly Ruby’s meal with chia seeds for an added boost of protein, energy and free radical scavenging.
